[edit] Information
Last year, what started as an attempt to become the ultimate endurance athlete, fighting against his body, pushing it to the limit, became a very different adventure for double gold-medal winning Olympian James Cracknell. After competing in the Marathon des Sables, James intended to take on a truly unique endeavour: an attempt to race across the entire breadth of North America, from Los Angeles to New York City - running, cycling, rowing and swimming - in only sixteen days to set a new endurance World Record. He was to run 100 miles in the searing heat of Death Valley, ride a bike along the 2,500 miles of Route 66, row 250 miles across Lake Erie and finish by swimming the final 15 miles down the Hudson River to finish under the gaze of the Statue of Liberty. However, that all changed when early one morning, while riding his bike through Arizona, James received a life-threatening head injury when he was hit by a truck. Rushed to hospital he was immediately put in a medically induced coma as doctors assessed his injuries. Now was a far more crucial fight: James had to fight for his life. Thankfully he made it. And yet another fight began: his fight back to health. Follow the full incredible story as one of the world's greatest athletes truly faces his greatest challenge.
