A fresh-faced young woman spends a hot summer in Washington, D.C., studying Russian, secret surveillance spotting and covert photo skills before being sent to Moscow in the midst of the Cold War. No, she's not the latest character on FX's period drama "The Americans." She's the real-life subject of premiere of "Declassified" on CNN. The original series focuses on the secret world of American espionage through firsthand accounts from the men and women who were on the missions. Declassified is an anthology spy series that delves into the riveting true stories of America's covert operations in the United States and around the world. Each episode features a newly declassified mission told firsthand by the agents who lived it, many of whom will be appearing on camera for the very first time. Declassified covers missions set in fascinating locations and time periods from Cold War era Moscow to modern day Iran, from the streets of 1980s Cuba to today's bustling Beijing. All 16 intelligence agencies from the CIA to the FBI are represented, revealing the unbelievable true stories of America's covert operations in the United States and around the world. Among the stories covered are the military's hunts for Iraq dictator Saddam Hussein and al-Qaida leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. With the partnership of Congressman Mike Rogers, former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee — a man who worked intimately with members of all sixteen intelligence agencies for a decade, Declassified deliver unprecedented access to the secret world of espionage. In the series, the viewer gets an insight into that covert world and gets background information on the course of selected US secret operations at home and abroad. The documentation is supplemented by interviews with the agents involved, many of whom are showing their faces in front of the camera for the first time. [edit] Trigon: The KGB Chess Game
The story of Aleksandr Ogorodnik, a Soviet diplomat with the codename Trigon, who was recruited by the CIA at the height of the Cold War to obtain valuable intelligence on the Soviet Union.
During the Cold War, the nuclear threat was more present than ever and the USA was dependent on obtaining secret information from the Soviet Union in order to protect its own people. For this purpose, the agent Aleksandr Ogorodnik (codename: Trigon) was sent to Moscow. Together with his partner Marti Peterson, he provided the United States with the information it needed, risking his life every day.

In this episode of Declassified Spy Stories, hear how the search for the missing Iraq dictator Saddam Hussein became the focus for the U.S. military before events led to catastrophe.
Eric Maddox works as an intelligence collection officer for the USA. His goal is to find Saddam Hussein's whereabouts. The clever agent pays particular attention to information that his colleagues consider unimportant. A seemingly irrelevant statement by Saddam's lover finally leads to the dictator's hiding place.

A report on efforts by President George W. Bush and the Joint Special Operations Command to stop violent Al Qaeda leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.
After Saddam Hussein was captured, US forces in Iran focused their search for the brutal terrorist leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. He was the mastermind behind countless suicide bombings that killed Shia Muslims. To capture the highly dangerous Zarqawi - dead or alive - the US formed a task force.

The FBI and Defense Intelligence Agency team up to capture DIA Senior Analyst Ana Montes for allegedly passing sensitive intelligence to Cuba.
Ten days after the September 11 attack, the FBI arrested Ana Montes. She planned to pass sensitive information to Cuba regarding the US entry into Afghanistan. The agent worked for the US Defense Intelligence Agency for 17 years. During this time, she regularly relayed classified military information to Cuba.
[edit] Cross International: The Billion Dollar Black Market
Investigations begin on an undercover sting operation to stop illegal arms; led by ICE and Homeland Security.
"Cross International" is a front company that, on behalf of the US authorities, establishes contact with arms dealers who illegally supply American products such as weapons or war technology to opponents of the war abroad. A US agent slips into the role of the CEO of "Cross International" and plays a role every day that could cost him his life.

A Taliban double agent was instrumental in securing the release of foreign nationals held hostage in Afghanistan by the Taliban.
In 2011, the Taliban took eight people from abroad into captivity. The charge is: Christian missionary work in Afghanistan. During their incarceration, the 9/11 attack occurs, turning the desperate inmates hostage. An Afghan double agent who can walk in and out of the prison becomes US intelligence's key man in the hostage rescue effort.
[edit] Red Storm Rising: Naval Secrets Exposed
Engineer Chi Mak was allegedly leaking Naval secrets to the Chinese government back in 2004 and was pursued by the FBI and NCIS.
In 2004, the FBI received a tip that sensitive US Navy data and files had been stolen and passed to the Chinese government. This act of espionage could endanger the lives of American citizens. In order to find the leak and stop the information transmission, the FBI launches an investigation.
[edit] Hexagon: The Secret Satellite
During the Cold War, the U.S. military races against time to recover classified footage from a top secret surveillance satellite that crashed into the Pacific Ocean before it falls into enemy hands.
During the Cold War, the world was on the brink of atomic abyss. In order to find out about the plans of the Soviet Union at an early stage, the USA used the Hexagon spy satellite. However, when sensitive footage from the satellite's recordings is lost in the Pacific Ocean, US forces are in a race against time to collect the evidence before the enemy gets wind of it.
