[edit] Information

More than three decades after he was apprehended in Los Angeles, Richard Ramirez continues to haunt our nightmares, his name still synonymous with fear, torture and sadistic murder. Better known as the Night Stalker, Ramirez cut a deadly swath through the "city of angels," killing 13 people, while sexually assaulting, burglarizing and attempting to murder many more, bringing the city of Los Angeles to a standstill. His cruelty and malevolence were nearly unprecedented in criminal history. "Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer" gives viewers a front-row seat to Richard Ramirez' terrifying 1980s killing spree. The killings began to ramp up in July of 1985, and for two months, Los Angeles was terrified as "The Night Stalker" killed, raped, and robbed seemingly random Angelenos by night. The gripping new Netflix documentary series "Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer" goes in-depth on the rampage, interviewing police, victims, and reporters about the search and ultimate capture of Richard Ramirez. From the start till the end, this story remains realistic yet terrifying. The Night Stalker chronicles the desperate search to find Ramirez by focusing on the police officers tasked with bringing the killer to justice. Set against the hazy backdrop of 1980s Los Angeles, the four-part series tells the story of one of the most notorious serial killers in U.S. history from the perspective of the two Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department detectives who hunted him down -- as well as some of the victims who managed to escape his wrath. The unlikely pair who had to sift through the clues were Gil Carrillo, a young and outgoing detective, and his taciturn mentor, the legendary investigator Frank Salerno. Two detectives won't rest until they catch him. Directed by Tiller Russell ; An IPC Production

Los Angeles is currently riding a high, having hosted the Olympics while experiencing one of the lowest crime rates in its history. Gil Carrillo and Frank Salerno get started in law enforcement and eventually make it to homicide. Their lives, along with Los Angeles, is changed forever when they are assigned a murder case involving Dayle Yoshie Okazaki. They eventually discover a few similar murders in the LA area and start realizing that the murders share the same modus operandi. While police think there are multiple criminals, Detective Gil Carrillo suspects otherwise. When he finds himself teamed with Hillside Stranger veteran Detective Frank Salerno, they discover that Carrillo's suspicions could be right…and the hunt is on! Anastasia Hronas also details the horrible rape she endured from Richard Ramirez as a child.

[edit] Anyone Could be Next

In the second episode, viewers get to see the thrilling chase as the detectives try to find evidence to nab the infamous killer. Detectives Gil Carrillo and Frank Salerno find themselves pulled deeper into the investigation as more crimes pop-up. The detectives come to the conclusion that there is a serial killer in Los Angeles and paranoia begins to sweep across the LA area. Scant clues and a rapidly rising body count take a toll on Carrillo and Salerno — but an impounded vehicle may lead to a break. With evidence of a specific shoeprint linking the crimes, Carrillo and Salerno learn that their advantage could be lost when the media learns about it. They endure many sleepless nights trying to piece together who is perpetrating the killings. The two detectives also find a tooth sample which they believe belongs to the Night Stalker. The near arrest of the killer leads to a missed opportunity, but a second chance to find him.

[edit] Lock. Your. Doors

LA is going through a heat wave as the detectives are still desperately trying to find the Night Stalker, who has continued killing. With lead after lead falling through to error and bad timing, Carrillo and Salerno find the media taking a bigger interest in the killer now dubbed the Night Stalker. When a murder occurs up near San Francisco, the police's secret weapon to linking the crimes is accidentally exposed… but the crime could create one of the biggest leads as the detective get more evidence and a potential name. They miss a close opportunity to catch him at a dental appointment, which frustrates the detectives, as does a mayor who divulges evidence to the press. The media is now aware of the story and begins giving regular news briefings on the case, officially calling him "Night Stalker." Frank Salerno eventually interrogates Armando, a man associated with someone who dressed the same as the Night Stalker. This leads to the breakthrough discovery of the Night Stalker's name, Richard Ramirez.

[edit] Manhunt

Detectives identify their suspect and a manhunt begins – but it's the public that rises up to stop the Night Stalker's deadly reign of terror. The media in conjunction with law enforcement print Richard Ramirez's face in the newspaper, which causes citizens of the LA area to begin seeking the man known as "The Night Stalker." Richard Ramirez returns from a trip and discovers that he has been caught. Ramirez faces street justice as he tries to avoid police, but the prospects of a trial turn into a circus as victims, mourning family members, and even fans show up to see what will happen. The episode details Richard Ramirez's courtroom presence, his fans, and ultimately his death. The series ends with the detectives detailing how this case has affected their lives.
