[edit] Information

Infestation This brand new and exclusive series features the invasive species and pests who threaten our forests, waterways, food supplies and cities. The series gives an intimate, close-up picture of each species, investigates why they are a concern, and examines current and past infestations and possible future threats. Each episode highlights the role played by dedicated scientists who are attempting to tackle the challenges presented by each species. In as many cases as possible, stories of individuals who have been personally affected and who often pay a hefty price, are revealed. Each segment touches upon the micro (single farm, backyard, house, etc) as well as the global effects, including globalisation trends, global warming, broad economic impact, food crisis, political stability and the spread of disease.

[edit] The Fight for Food

Examining what happens during an infestation, beginning with the causes of agricultural plagues and pests and the effects they have on the global food supply.

[edit] Underwater Invasion

Looking at several underwater species that damage the environments they inhabit, including lionfish, jellyfish, algae and the Nile perch, commonly found in Africa.

[edit] Forests under Attack

The documentary focuses on the invasive species and pests that threaten forests, including the Asian long-horned beetle and the emerald ash borer, which have wiped out billions of trees in the USA. Across the border into Canada, the mountain pine beetle has halved the number of lodgepole pines, and the kissing bug, a carrier for Chagas disease, ticks and the Burmese python are also damaging woodland.

[edit] Cities under Siege

Examining the invasive species and pests that threaten cities, including bed bugs, termites, cockroaches, rats, mosquitos and coyotes. Cockroaches produce high amounts of allergens and are one of the causes of asthma for children in conurbations. In the USA, coyotes have begun to feed on pets and livestock and can now reach weights of 75 pounds, while in the southern states; mosquitoes have started to spread the West Nile virus.
