[edit] Information
HD Traveler presents the off-the-beaten-path sights and sounds of the world's best destinations.
Part one takes us to Portugal, a colorful land wedged between the Atlantic Ocean and Spain. We follow an 18-year-old woman who sings fado, the distinctive, bittersweet songs of love and separation. Next, we meet an older singer who has spent a lifetime dedicated to her art. Finally, we visit the University of Coimbra to hear their special style of fado and experience a taste of university life.
In part two we journey to Sao Miguel Island, part of the Azores. We see the citizens keep alive their traditions of folk dance, pottery, and a style of cuisine called volcanic cooking. Then, we meet a fado singer hailed as the successor to Portugal's beloved fado queen, Amalia Rodriguez. Finally, we see what makes Portuguese guitars look and sound distinctive.
