When Animals Strike tells the terrifying and fascinating stories of what happens when a wild animal attacks a human being. Relive, in blow-by-blow detail, more than six real life confrontations between man and beast: A mother grizzly takes down a man and his daughter as they hike through Glacier National Park. A juvenile gator ambushes a boy while he swims in a small pond in Florida. A startled black bear chases a Colorado man and follows him 20 feet up a tree. A swarm of Africanized bees descend on an Arizona firefighter as he tries to rescue a stranded climber. A hungry coyote pounces on a little boy while he plays in a neighbor’s yard in New Jersey. A rabid mountain lion stalks an Arizona boy celebrating his 10th birthday. Survivors and witnesses recount their life-threatening experiences.
While the human drama is compelling, the animals are the focus of this program. With the aid of graphics and interviews with wildlife experts, the program paints a picture of how each species behaves when it’s on the attack. Find out which physical traits gives each species its unique advantage in battle. In the water, an American alligator relies on tiny bundles of nerves along its jawline to detect the movement of possible prey. On land, a mountain lion can pounce on unsuspecting prey by leaping up to 20 feet in a single bound.
As the fighting strategy of each species emerges, the program also examines the possible reasons behind each attack: Was the animal fighting to protect its young? Was it protecting its territory? Was it simply hungry? And what role did human behavior play in prompting the attack?
And, finally, for each incident, When Animals Strike looks closely at what the victim did – or didn’t do – to survive. With each species, the strategy is different. Learn how best to defend against an attack or, even better, how avoid one in the first place.
